If you’re looking for an ideal location where your kids can spend their weekend energy hiking, riding a bike, and putting into practice the knowledge they usually get from a textbook, the answer is simple. If you are in South Florida, take them to Everglades National Park – perhaps for free. THE EXPERIENCE “They have the opportunity to explore 15 miles of Everglades National Park from a very comfortable seat,” said Yvette Cano, the director of education at Everglades National Park. At Shark Valley, one of the best options is joining the tram tour, where the entire family is educated on everything there is to know about the park’s unique ecosystem. For many, it is their first time seeing an alligator, debunking myths, and facing their fears. “The alligators didn’t eat me at all, but they still looked kind of scary to me. The park ranger told me to keep calm,” one of the fourth graders from Miami Shores Elementary said as she joined her class on a school field

March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month—but for some families, the fight is year-round. For Natasha Mathias, it’s personal. In photos, you’ll often see her standing beside her twin sister, Natalie Marc Surpris—two smiles that once mirrored each other. Today, those images carry a deeper meaning. They are reminders of love, loss, and a mission that refuses to fade. “I know she’s proud every time,” Mathias told NBC6. “Because it’s not easy… but I know she’s proud every time we get up and raise awareness.” Natalie was just 38 years old when she was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. At first, her symptoms were believed to be something less serious, fibroids. By the time doctors discovered the truth, the disease had already advanced. Four years later, she was gone. She was 42. What followed could have been silence. Instead, it became purpose. Mathias turned her grief into action, co-founding We Stand Together, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness and s

Savannah Guthrie will be returning to TODAY and has opened up about her decision to come back to “this beautiful place that we call home.” In the third part of Savannah’s interview with Hoda Kotb that aired on TODAY March 27, the TODAY co-anchor spoke about why she is coming back amidst the ongoing search for her missing mother, Nancy Guthrie. Hoda shared that Savannah’s first day back will be Monday, April 6, the day after Easter. It will mark her first in-studio appearance on the show since Jan. 30, which was two days before her mother was reported missing from her home in Arizona. “It’s hard to imagine doing it because it’s such a place of joy and lightness, and I can’t come back and try to be something that I’m not,” Savannah said. “But I can’t not come back, because it’s my family. I think it’s part of my purpose right now.” “I want to smile. And when I do, it will be real,” she continued. “I will have joy. And my joy will be my protest. My joy will be my ans
A Miami Gardens man says he’s grateful he’s alive after a fire tore through his house Friday afternoon. Edward Brown Jr. has lived in his home and community for nearly 60 years. “That’s all I have right there,” Brown said. Brown said was about to start cooking and went outside to talk with his son. He thought everything was fine. “He said, daddy, what are you cooking in there?” Brown recalled. “I thought I turned the burner off. When I went to the door, it was too much smoke.” Brown, his son and his neighbor tried to tackle the fire with hoses before firefighters showed up. Ronald Rodriguez, who lives next door, said his dad tried to help their neighbor. “He went to the back, and he’s trying to help, he’s trying to put the fire out himself,” Rodriguez said. Flames tore a giant hole through the roof. Firefighters eventually put the blaze out. “No, I wasn’t really scared, thank God I wasn’t scared,” Brown sa

If you want honest marriage advice, ask a room of second graders. Teacher Klarissa Trevino, 26, had always hoped to involve her students in some way with her wedding. When she came up with the idea of having them write their best piece of marriage advice, she knew it was the perfect fit. “I love my students, like, absolutely love them,” Trevino told NBC News. “They’re the funniest kids.” The advice, which she shared in a TikTok video, quickly went viral: “Do not eat each other’s snacks,” “Get her Starbucks everyday” and “Be kind and love each other.” Second graders offer heartwarming marriage advice to their teacher.
