Scientists build arsenic-lined crystal pore framework to boost rhodium catalyst performance

Rhodium is one of the most powerful catalytic metals known to chemistry. Small amounts of it can drive reactions that produce millions of tons of useful chemicals every year. But getting rhodium to work well—quickly, selectively, and without degrading—depends heavily on the ligands surrounding it.

Garage fire in Bay Terraces neighborhood displaces 10 people

San Diego Fire is investigating a garage fire that displaced ten people in the Bay Terraces neighborhood Sunday afternoon.   “This is the most that I could salvage,” Clarence Elder told NBC 7. A jewelry box with watches is one of the very few belongings Elder was able to recover from the fire. He was among ten people who were inside the home when the fire broke out. According to San Diego Fire, they responded to a call about a garage fire at around 2:30 p.m. in the 700 block of Bullock Drive in the Bay Terraces neighborhood. San Diego Fire said the fire may have started with a lithium-ion battery that was charging. “I heard a pop and then I looked and my e-bike battery was smoking. My girl she tried to move the battery and when she moved it, it just exploded,” Elder said. Clarence and his friends don’t know what’s next, but they’re grateful they have each other. “Thank God we’re alive though, thank God, everybody made it out,” Elder said. San Diego Fire

After Ohtani hits 2nd straight leadoff homer, deGrom recovers to lead Rangers over Dodgers 5-2

Shohei Ohtani connected off Jacob deGrom for his second straight leadoff home run, but the Texas Rangers rallied to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-2 Sunday and avoid a three-game sweep. Evan Carter hit a tying home run off Roki Sasaki (0-2) and Brandon Nimmo drove in two runs for the Rangers. Sasaki allowed two runs, five hits and five walks over four innings while striking out a career-high six, lowering his ERA to 6.23. Ohtani extended his on-base streak to 46 games, fifth-longest in Dodgers history behind Duke Snider (58), Shawn Green (53), Willie Keeler (50) and Ron Cey (47). Ohtani pulled the first pitch from deGrom (1-0), a 97.9 mph fastball, to right-center for his 26th leadoff homer and fifth home run this season. That was the only run allowed in six innings by deGrom, who gave up four hits, struck out nine and walked three. He beat the Dodgers for just the second time in 13 regular-season starts. Jakob Junis pitched a hitless ninth for this third save. Carter
